Chief McDonald approached Mr. Lewis and requested that he and his welding students build the police department an entry tool. Mr. Lewis knew just the student to take on this important task, Izayah Guillen.
Mr. Lewis stated that Izayah is a Burkburnett High School Senior who transferred here last year from West Texas. Mr. Lewis stated he's been a great kid since day one of being here. He went on to explain that he is one of the hardest workers he's ever met. Izayah has a love for public service and is an active volunteer with the Friberg Cooper Volunteer Fire Department. They put a lot of thought into every detail of this tool. They talked and tested different weights, balance, stance of the handles, durability, ergonomics, geometry, vibration/shock control, and so on all the way to the paint and decal. Mr. Lewis is extremely proud of Izayah and the work that they put into the device. Most people look at something like that and think "it's just a few pieces of metal thrown together to knock stuff down." When in reality that small project made him use so many things that he had learned in this school and this course.
Mr. Lewis and Izayah have helped ensure that members of the Burkburnett ISD Police Department meet their Mission Statement. Furthermore, this collaborate project exemplifies the Bulldog Way!
