Dr. Brad Owen - Superintendent of Schools
Hello, I am excited to be the Superintendent of Schools for BISD. I have been with BISD for the last 26 years and have served in many different capacities. I began my career with BISD teaching Integrated Physics/Chemistry and Chemistry for 9 years. I also coached varsity football and served as the head power-lifting coach during this time. I then moved into administration and served as the vice principal at BHS. I then spent 10 years as a campus principal at both BMS and BHS. Prior to being named Superintendent of Schools, I served as the Executive Director of Innovative Learning and Technology and the Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services.
I am a 1991 graduate of BHS and received my Bachelor's degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. I then received my Master's from Midwestern State University in 2003. I obtained my Doctorate in Organizational Leadership and Development from Grand Canyon University in 2018. I have been married to my beautiful wife Linda for 22 years. We have one amazing daughter, DeLaney, who is 20 and is a Junior in college. I like to be in the outdoors and love spending time with family and friends.
I firmly believe in the critical need to build relationships and strong, healthy cultures in our schools. I agree with Rita Pierson's words that "Every child deserves a champion... an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists they become the best they can possibly be" (watch the video below, trust me, it's worth it). I believe in high levels of learning for ALL students and know the socio-emotional aspect of a child's development is just as important as the academic side. I fully believe in and support The Bulldog Way, and as such, want to promote and inspire a culture of purpose and trust based on a moral imperative to do what is best for the academic and developmental needs of ALL learners.
