Welcome to Our Evans Elementary Family! We are thrilled to introduce Kaylie Skinner, who will be joining our Pre-K teaching team at I.C. Evans Elementary for the upcoming school year! Kaylie is already a familiar face at Evans as an instructional paraprofessional, and we're excited to have her take on this new role. Please join us in welcoming her to our teaching staff! University Name: Midwestern State University Major: Applied Arts and Sciences Graduation Date: December 2021 I am currently an instructional paraprofessional at I C Evans Elementary. I work with students in Tier 3, offering specialized, one-on-one or small group instruction to address their specific needs with reading and math. Before this job, I was a substitute for Burkburnett ISD for two years. I enjoy spending time with my family. We like to ride bikes, go on walks to the park, and swim during the summer. I also like to watch my children play sports. I am a loud and proud cheerleader for my kiddos! GO Gremlins and Hooks!! I didn't always know that I wanted to be an educator. It wasn't until I had my oldest son that I realized I had a calling to work with children. I knew that being a teacher was not for the faint of heart, so I decided to work for BISD for a few years to make sure it was really what I wanted to do. I now know for a fact that I have found what I was meant to do. I have loved creating relationships with my students and challenging them to reach their full potential whether it's academically, socially, or emotionally. I'm looking forward to helping my Pre-K students discover their interests and develop their full potential next year! I am a Burkburnett High School graduate and my children are third generation Bulldogs. I am proud to be from Burkburnett and I am grateful for the primary and secondary education I received from this little town. I had more than a handful of wonderful teachers who guided and inspired me to be the person I am today. We are thrilled to welcome Jessica Hughes to our Burkburnett ISD family! Jessica brings valuable experience to our team with one year teaching K-2 self-contained special education and five years in Early Childhood Special Education working with three-year-olds. Jessica earned her Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences from Midwestern State University in 2019 and continued her education at Texas Tech University, where she received her degree in Special Education with a concentration in Autism in 2022. In her own words: "I became a special education teacher because I believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive in a supportive and inclusive environment. My passion for helping students overcome challenges and celebrate their unique strengths is what drives me every day." When not in the classroom, Jessica enjoys spending quality time with her husband and their son, reading, and traveling. Jessica is excited about "the opportunity to help expand Burkburnett ISD's early childhood education, specifically with special education students!" Tiffany James joins us as a special education paraprofessional at I. C. Evans Elementary for the upcoming school year, bringing her passion for education and dedication to helping students achieve their full potential. When she's not at school, Tiffany enjoys reading and cherishes time spent with her husband and two children. Her journey into education is truly inspiring - as a mother of a child with autism, she's witnessed firsthand the incredible joy and reward that comes from helping young minds learn and grow. Tiffany chose to become a paraprofessional because she wanted to make a meaningful difference in children's lives. She shares, "Watching my daughter learn and accomplish things is the most amazing and rewarding experience, and I wanted to help other kids reach those same goals." As she begins her journey with BISD, Tiffany is looking forward to creating strong bonds and friendships with both her colleagues and students at I. C. Evans Elementary. BISD was proud to host resiliency influencer Brooks Gibbs. On Monday night, he delivered an inspirational message empowering BISD parents. The Boomtown Babes and BMS Choir performed, too!  Thanks to The River Assembly of God for providing hot dogs, BMS StuCo for providing water, and BMS S2S for serving free popcorn!  It was a stellar night, complete with tons of raffle prizes!  Dr. Gibbs also presented to BMS 6th and 7th graders, sharing about emotional resiliency.

We would like to thank all the sponsors who contributed to our raffle give away at the Brooks Gibbs Parent Seminar! Thank you for supporting Burkburnett ISD. We appreciate you!

Last week we surveyed our elementary staff and elementary parents to see if they would be willing to add 10 minutes (5 min in the a.m. and 5 min in the p.m.) to the elementary bell schedule for the rest of the year beginning next Monday so that all students could get Good Friday (April 18th) off. The surveys had overwhelming support for this. This does not effect the secondary bell schedules as they are already longer. So, we will have April 18th off. See Calendar attached. Elementary parents: This does not alter any other part of the school day. The drop off times for parents in the morning will not be changed to an earlier time, but kids need to be at school no later than 7:40.

A Public Hearing of the Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC) of Burkburnett Independent School District will be held May 14th, beginning at 3:45 pm at the Overton Ray Elementary library.
