Girls Powerlifting

The Burkburnett Lady Bulldogs powerlifting team made an impressive showing at the recent Unequipped Regional Championships, securing a third-place finish in their division.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Naveah Rangel, who dominated the 198-pound weight class with a first-place finish. Her outstanding performance earned her advancement to the state competition, where she will represent Burkburnett against the best lifters in Texas.

Several other Lady Bulldogs contributed to the team's success with strong individual showings. In the 97-pound weight class, Jerri Moon secured fourth place while teammate Brianna Strayhorn followed closely with a fifth-place finish. Ashlynn Alpers added to the team's points with a fourth-place result in the 114-pound division.

Kennedi Thomas powered her way to a third-place finish in the 220-pound category, further cementing the team's depth across multiple divisions.

The third-place team finish represents a significant achievement for the Burkburnett program, highlighting the strength of their powerlifting team this season.

Rangel joins an elite group, as 23 female athletes from the Wichita Falls area qualified for the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association's state meet during regional competitions last week. To qualify, these athletes had to finish in the top two of their respective weight classes at regional meets.

The THSWPA State Championships will be held March 11-15, 2025, at the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, Texas. The Unequipped division, where Rangel will compete, is scheduled for Thursday, March 13th, with competition starting at 6:30 PM.

The Burkburnett powerlifting program continues to build momentum as one of the competitive teams in the North Texas region.
