In a remarkable debut season for the BHS Bulldogs, the barbecue teams have secured two spots in the prestigious state cook-off set to take place at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas, on May 3rd and 4th.
The first team, the Bulldog Brisketeers, comprised of Mia Daiker, Emily Russell, Kaleb Roosa, Bryan Cropper, and Hayley Burnett, clinched their spot at the state level after an impressive showing at the Graham Cookoff. Meanwhile, Boomtown Smoke, featuring John Boren, Spencer Gerber, William Fields, and Ash Garrett, earned their qualification by achieving 8th place at the Dr. Gene Burton College and Career Academy Cookoff.
Boomtown Smoke's success was fueled by their exceptional performances in multiple categories, securing 3rd place in beans, 4th place in dessert, and 11th place in brisket. Despite facing challenges due to a missing team member, their determination and teamwork shone through, resulting in a well-deserved qualification.
For the Bulldog Brisketeers, the focus was on using the competition as valuable practice. Despite finishing 14th overall, they demonstrated their potential with a 6th place bean and 8th place brisket turn-in, showcasing their commitment to refining recipes and achieving flavor excellence.
Following the intense competition, the entire group was understandably exhausted but eager for the upcoming challenge of facing over 90 other teams at the state cook-off hosted by High School BBQ Inc. - HSBBQ. Their resilience and dedication are truly commendable, and their achievements reflect the spirit of excellence and teamwork embodied by the BHS Bulldogs.
