COACH BLACK ~ COMMUNICATION APPLICATIONS ~ Purpose : This course provides a variety of speech experiences including: humorous, impromptu, oral interpretation, autobiographical, current event, persuasive, and demonstration. Working individually and as groups, the students will explore the fun and enjoyment of improving their oral communication skills. The student will: Learn the purpose of speaking and methods of organizing a speech; Learn the methods to overcome stage fright; Learn how to articulate using pitch, rate, quality, and force; Experience a variety of speech forms; Develop listening skills and ways to evaluate oral communication. Due Dates : Please honor due dates for all assignments. Points will be deducted from the final score for late work. If you know you will be missing a class when an assignment is due, please make other arrangements to reschedule your presentation. That also includes students who know they will be in OCS or AEC. You Will Be Graded On The Following Objectives: Class Participation and Conduct Daily Grades Oral Presentations Unit Tests Every student starts the class with an A , but due to class disruptions, not following classroom rules, etc. the grades go down. Make-Up Work: If Absent, the student has 1 extra class day to turn in the assignment missed. Students are responsible to ask about classroom work the day he or she was absent. Communication Applications Final Speech IT’S YOUR CHOICE! You can choose from any of the speeches we have given in class this semester. The speech must be well planned with an introduction, body, and conclusion. The Final speech should be at least 3 minutes in length. A visual aid is not required, but extra credit will be applied if a visual aid is used during your speech. We will have a drawing to determine speech order. If any student is not ready to give his or her speech on the first day, he/she will perform it in the next class period for a late grade. TEN points will be deducted for each additional day. You will be given plenty of time in class to complete this assignment and it is your responsibility to use this time wisely. Also, you may work with a partner, but the time will be doubled and each person will have to deliver his/her own speech using the correct format. The possible choices include: Buddy Speech, Biography, Show & Tell, Demonstration, Informative, Career, or Persuasive.
